Frequently Asked Questions

How do I log an expense with my voice?

Tap the microphone button on the main screen and say your expense naturally — for example, “coffee 4.50” or “groceries 85 food”. Spent will parse the amount, description, and category automatically. You can review and edit before saving.

Can I scan receipts?

Yes. Tap the + button and choose “Scan Receipt” to use your camera, or “Upload” to pick an image from your photo library. The AI will extract the amount and merchant from the receipt image.

Is my data backed up to the cloud?

No — all expense data is stored locally on your device. This means your data is private and always available offline, but it is not synced across devices. Back up your phone regularly to avoid data loss.

How do I set a budget?

Go to Settings → Budgets and set a monthly limit for any category. The app will show a warning when you approach your limit.

How do I add a custom category?

Go to Settings → Categories and tap “Add category”. Custom categories are available in the AI categorization flow.

The voice input is not working. What should I check?

How do I delete an expense?

Open the expense from your history list, tap the edit icon, and scroll to the bottom to find the Delete option.

How do I delete all my data?

Uninstalling the app permanently removes all locally stored expense data from your device.
